It is easy to have a blog; you can create it for free on numerous platforms. Free hosting and the basics to promote the blog are already included.
Why are they free? Your blog brings users to their platform and vice versa, many bloggers bring many users...
However, you share/exchange traffic (Users) there, what can be a benefit for both; compare!

The classic static website may still work, but due to the web 2.0 CMS is the cleverest solution at the moment. You will also find some opportunities like for blogs, where you don’t need hosting and other environment.
An informative website with useful and good content may be easier to promote than a blog, you don’t need to go into the community so deep. But of course there are ways to combine the principles of blogs and (content) websites.
Since fb has conquered the world, nearly everyone knows what social media is. There are some others and most of them are better, just not so famous.
Another way to create your own website/social media group/page, but as easy as it is, as limited it is.
Do you think, fb or any would share its millions $ with you? Moreover, not every internet user is logged in all day long. A lot of people don’t even have an account. Those people will never visit your page on that social media platform. You may like that idea and it can be the right choice for you then.
A network is the combination of several options, what means several sites, with at least one blogger-platform, social media network, content and/or service providing together in one network (one label). Just the real big players can (safely) realise such huge projects. (Msn, Google, Yahoo).
